Carol Rodman recently wrote a special article for The Commercial Appeal. The article was posted September 13, 2011, the following is an excerpt:
There's bad news and good news for women about ovarian cancer.
The bad news is that each year about 22,000 women in the United States will get a diagnosis of ovarian cancer, and about 15,500 women will die from the disease. It is the ninth most common cancer among women and ranks fifth in cancer deaths among women, accounting for more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system.
The good news: If ovarian cancer is found while it is in Stage I or II and is treated before the cancer has spread outside the ovary, the five-year survival rate is 94 percent.

September was Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month but it is our duty and obligation is to educate the public year round. You can do it by wearing your walk shirts, teal bracelets or pins. We need to do whatever it takes to create awareness about this horrible disease.
When you go to your physician (internist, dentist, OB, Gyn or whomever) tell her or him about our organization and what we’re about. More good places to spread the word are with hair stylists, nail salons, exercise groups and others. Please call us to arrange for speakers at your churches, work or civic groups. We need to “Walk Teal for a Cure” each and every day.

Goal
Our goal is to introduce the words "ovarian cancer" to the female population by providing them with the information they need to make what could be a life saving decision. |

Please contact us if you have a need for OCAF presentations or displays at health fairs, civic events, women's club, etc. We will supply speakers, pins, bracelets, brochures and more. |
